2015 Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive
It's official...one more plug-in vehicle is now available for delivery in the US.
Sometime this weekend, the first delivery of the $41,450 Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive is set to occur, presumably in California.
Word of this comes from Daimler AG (parent company of Mercedes-Benz) who confirms the pending arrival of the first batch of B-Class Electric Drive EVs.
Without any fanfare, Mercedes-Benz opened the B-Class Electric Drive ordering books a few weeks ago. More recently, M-B fired up its B-Class Electric Drive online configurator, which is when we noticed the $600 "temporary range extender."
The B-Class Electric Drive goes head-to-head with the BMW i3.
Though only available in limited number and in select states at first, Mercedes-Benz promises that the 104 mile electric crossover (if the range extender option that utilizes more of the car's 36 kWh battery is picked up) will have a nationwide rollout soon:
“…B-Class ED will be available starting summer 2014 at authorized Mercedes-Benz dealers in select states — CA, CT, MD, OR, NJ, NY, RI and VT — and then nationwide in early 2015.”
And despite reports to the contrary, this is not a compliance electric vehicle. In addition to being offered nationwide, the B-Class ED will be available across Europe.
