Renault Samsung Motors announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Renault and LG Chem to jointly develop next generation lithium-ion battery for electric cars.
The main goal is to increase energy density and enable Renault's EVs to have longer range.
Sadly, there are not details on timeframe, range or parameters of the new battery tech.
Thierry Bollore, Chief Competitive Officer of Renault Group, stated:
"We will get one step closer to realizing our electric vehicle business objectives through the joint battery development project with LG Chem. Through Renault Samsung, we will keep making important contributions to the Korean automobile industry."
LG Chem already is a supplier of lithium-ion batteries for Renault ZOE and Twizy.
