Nissan Plant Smyrna TN
Nissan North America has promoted Gary Edwards to the position of vice president of the automaker's Decherd Powertrain Operations and Smyrna Battery Plant, both located in Tennessee.
As the Herald Chronicle reports:
"Edwards began his Nissan career at the Smyrna Vehicle Assembly Plant in 1983."
"Throughout the years, he worked in various engineering departments as he pursued his BS degree in engineering technology."
Though Edwards; main focus will be on the Decherd Powertrain Operations facility, as well as on getting the Decherd Infiniti Powertrain plant operational by June of 2014, he will also be the man in charge of the Smyrna Battery Plant, which of course makes batteries for the Nissan LEAF.
Edwards has long been linked to various quality control jobs at Nissan, including his latest as Director of Engineering, Quality Assurance and Parts Quality at the Decherd manufacturing plant. Quality control is essential when it comes to lithium-ion batteries where even a slight flaw is unacceptable.
