Porsche 918 Spyder - A Lesson In What The Plug Can Do For The Super Car

Carlos Lago of Ignition prefaces his review of the 2015 Porsche 91 Spyder by saying:

"Without question the 918 exemplifies the absurdity of a near million dollar hypercar..."

And he is not overstating his point.  The plug-in Porsche can put the Bugatti Veyron to shame in most of the numbers people generally look for when evaluating how super a "super car" is.  0-60, 1/4 mile, etc.

We will let the video explain all the ins-and-outs on the car, but also take a moment ourselves to highlight what it can do electrically.

When combined with the gas engine, the car puts out 874 hp and 944 lb-ft of torque.  When operating on electricity only, the car has a range of about 20 miles, and a 0-62 time in forced EV mode of 6.1 seconds.

Other specs of note:

  • 0 to 62 MPH in 2.5 seconds
  • 0 to 124 MPH in 7.2 seconds
  • 0 to 186 MPH in 19.9 seconds
  • 4.6-Liter V8 Puts Out 599 HP
  • Total Power From Engine and 2 Electric Motors is 875 HP at 8,500 RPM
Production of the 918 Spyder is now underway, with  first deliveries are scheduled for the end of the year.  Only 918 will be made, at a cost of about $1 million£650,000 in the UK..
