The automotive industry as a whole saw a sales rise of 10.8% in the UK in 2013, so sales of hybrids and plug-in vehicles are outpacing the industry average.

SMMT reports that 32,727 hybrid and plug-in vehicles were registered in the UK in 2013 and further notes that sales of BEVs shot up by an astounding 99% in 2013.

Additionally, SMMT states that, back in 2011, plug-in vehicles only accounted for 4.7% of alt-fuel vehicle sales.  In 2013, that 4.7% had risen to 12.3%.

Some 32,727 hybrid and electric plug-in cars were registered, representing an above average rise of 17.5%.

One more point worthy of mention is that 3,584 vehicles registered in the UK in 2013 were eligible for the UK's Plug-In Car Grant and that 6,942 owners have taken advantage of that grant since it was available in January 2011.
