It's the award none of us could've predicted the BMW i3 would win: iF Product Design Gold Award.
"The BMW World opens the door for the 61st iF design awards. And the BMW Group wins big receiving 19 design awards. One of the 75 coveted gold awards goes to the BMW i3 for the incorporation of sustainability in all facets of the interieur and exterieur design."
Okay, makes sense now. It's not the quite polarizing design of the i3 itself that won it the award, but the "incorporation of sustainability" into the design that made the i3 a winner.
What's an iF Product Design Award? Per the iF award site:
"The iF Product Design Award was introduced in 1954 and is annually conferred by the iF International Forum Design. Every year the iF attracts more than 2,000 product entries from around 37 nations, which are judged by renowned experts, with the best of them receiving an iF seal of outstanding design quality. The best of the best are awarded with an iF gold award, known as the "Design Oscar."
