One of two first BYD e6 for Rotterdam Taxi Centre
BYD announced that Rotterdam Taxi Centre (RTC), one of the largest taxi operators in the Netherlands, is adding two e6 electric cars to its fleet. RTC bought the BYD cars after successful trials in real-world operation.
According to press release, RTC plans to extend its electric fleet to 25 units within 18 months.
Rotterdam city is also going electric, installing its 500th charging point. The city earlier attracted BYD to establish its European headquarter in Rotterdam.
Vice Mayor of Rotterdam, Ms. Alexandra C. van Huffelen, stated:
“Electric taxis like the BYD being put into service by the Rotterdam Taxi Company (RTC) are important for Rotterdam as they help a lot to improve the air quality; they will make an important contribution to cleaner traffic in the city”.
BYD Managing Director Isbrand Ho remarked:
“We are delighted that our e6 has been chosen to provide pure electric, emissions free transport for taxi passengers in Rotterdam. The trials which have been undertaken indicate that the e6 will perform well in daily service, something we are confident by the fact that more than 100 million kilometres of passenger-carrying duties the e6 has already clocked in Shenzhen and Hong Kong”.
BYD again stated that the "Fe battery (lithium-iron phosphate)" in the e6 will withstand more than 4,000 cycles, which at 300 km (190 miles) of range is roughly equivalent to 1,200,000 km or almost 750,000 miles. From previous reports, we know that the most extensive used e6 taxis in China already reached 400,000 km.
