National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS), the current owner of Saab, officially refires production of the 9-3 today.
A Small Test Fleet Of Saab ePowers Has Already Been Manufactured
"Yes, we will start the actual production on Monday," NEVS spokesman Mikael Oestlund told Automotive News Europe.
But it's not electric, at least not yet.
The conventional 9-3 matters not one bit to us, but in 2014 NEVS will begin to manufacturer a revamped or revised 9-3 that plug-ins.
The electric Saab 9-3 will launch in Spring 2014. NEVS’ partner and part owner Qingdao has placed an initial order for 200 of the EVs for fleet use.
The electric 9-3 will likely be a China-only offering for awhile. If profitable selling it there, then NEVS may expand availability to the global level. But first comes China, then maybe Europe and lastly the US.
There's still no guarantee that an electric Saab will ever be sold in the US, but we're not writing NEVS off just yet.
