Jiangsu Xinri E-Vehicle Company...that's who.
Never heard of them? Neither had we, until we came across the latest Leaderboard report from Navigant Research.
Of course, most electric scooters aren't sold in the US, so the fact that we're unaware of what's going down in the industry isn't a surprise.
As Navigant says, electric scooters sell in massive volumes in the Asia-Pacific region. Sales of these electric scooters in China alone are expected to hit 9.4 million in 2013.
As for outside of the Asia-Pacific region, only 31,338 electric scooters will be sold in 2013, predicts Navigant.
In the Asia-Pacific region, electric scooters (mostly lead-acid powered) are now the primary means of powered transportation (walking and bicycling still dominate overall).
Navigant Research chose 12 electric scooters companies to be examined in this Leaderboard Report.
The judgement criteria was as follows: vision; go-to-market strategy; partners; product and production strategy; technology; geographic reach; market share; sales and marketing; product quality and reliability; product features; pricing; and staying power.
We'd bet that Honda is not pleased with its placement in the Followers category.
