When Was The Last Time You Saw A Chevrolet Volt With A Snorkel?

Recently Mitsubishi did some press on their 3rd plug-in offering, promoting its entry into a 2,000 km (1,250 mile) off-road race - specifically the 2013 Asia Cross Country Rally (or “AXCR”) which took place between Thailand and Laos.

Previously, all we had from the event was a stock photo or two from the event, but now thanks to Mitsubishi Japan (and the author of this story having no life), we have acquired some pretty decent Japanese footage of the first off-road production electric vehicle doing, well...what it does.

"Entered by a private team (“Two and Four Motor Sports”), backed by Mitsubishi Motors, the sole  Outlander PHEV finished 17th overall with no failure: quite a success for what was essentially a standard car – including the Twin Motor 4WD plug-in hybrid electric drivetrain, as well as the Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) system – the only modifications being the regular cross-country racing routine of upgraded shock absorbers and springs, roll cage, under floor protection, exhaust and snorkel duct, etc…"

Separately, we also found what looks to be a "Hello Kitty" i-MiEV edition...or possibly a Mirage (your welcome):
