China to Determine the "Explosion of the Electric Car"
Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn has a way with words.
Somehow, Ghosn managed to use "explosion" and "electric car" in the same sentence and it came off right.
We don't advice that you try to link "explosion" or "fire" in any sentence that contains a reference to plug-in vehicles, but Ghosn, the electric vehicle industries most bullish man, can sort of do as he pleases.
In speaking to the Associated Press at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, Renault-Nissan CEO Ghosn stated that "the explosion of the electric car" depends on China.
Ghosn was referring to the role China could play in the future of EVs. If China comes on board, then EV sales will explode.
While China continues to support plug-in vehicles via its substantial subsidy/incentive program, sales of plug-ins there have been below expectations.
However, we see this changing as we speak and in a few year's time, China could cause the electric vehicle segment to explode.
Ghosn agrees with us, so it's 'bout time to gear up for the explosion.
