From the floor of the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, we bring you BMW's last (?) plug-in vehicle to hit the stage.
Active Tourer Signage
The BMW i8, i3, C Evolution and Cruise e-bike all got some time to shine, now it's the plug-in hybrid Concept Active Tourer's turn.
Before delving into the details, we'll start out by saying a version of this vehicle (called the 1-Series GT) will be production-bound soon, perhaps as early as 2014.
Instead of focusing on the specific details linked solely to this concept, we'll provide you with info on what to expect when the 1-Series GT goes into production.
Expect to see a 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbocharged (borrowed from the BMW i8) engine with a “high-performance” electric motor (likely borrowed from the BMW i3) and a lithium-ion battery.
This setup will crank out somewhere in the neighborhood of 190 hp, which will propel the production vehicle from 0 to 60 mph in less than 8 seconds.
Top speed will be approximately 125 mph.
Electric-only range is not yet know at this time and we can't even take a shot at guessing (our instincts says 20-ish miles though for the US - EPA) what it'll be because BMW has not yet provided kWh specs.
The rest of the vital details are unknown at this time and if it weren't for our sleuthing, then we'd only know what BMW provided below.
