Smart is previewing its next-generation Forfour with this snazzy concept called the Fourjoy.
While we're not keen on the Forujoy's overall design, it's important to note right from the get-go that the next-generation Forfour will indeed feature an electric drivetrain option.
So, in the future there will be two electric Smarts offered: Smart Fortwo Electric Drive and Smart Forfour Electric Drive.
What we see here in the Fourjoy is nothing more than an auto show concept meant to steal the stage.
There's little in the design of the Fourjoy that will make it to production.
The production Forfour, a joint effort between Daimler and Renault, will debut in 2015. It will be available in the US and the dimensions of this Fourjoy concept are said to be nearly identical to the production Forfour: 137.6 inches long, 77.9 inches wide and 58.8 inches high. Those dimensions mean that this new Forfour will be 10.2 inches shorter, 11.8 inches wider and 1.7 inches taller than the first-generation Forfour introduced way back in 2003.
The rear-wheel-drive Forfour will be a five-seater with two powertrain options offered. Gas...ugh. And electric...yay!!!
The electric setup found in the Fourjoy concept is the same as what's in today's Smart Fortwo ED: 55 kW electric motor and a 17.6-kWh lithium-ion battery.
Fortwo or Forfour? What's your electric vehicle preference? 2 or 4?
