LaFerrari Hypercar is a Mild Hybrid
And by hybrid, Montezemolo isn't talking ones that plug in. Rather, Ferrari's chairman means more vehicle likes LaFerrari, a mild hybrid that packs a huge punch.
The 963-horsepower LaFerrari is sold out, but it competes is a growing segment of high performance hybrids, which will soon include the BMW i8 and Porsche 918 Spyder (both of which are plug-ins).
For Ferrari, it's all about making money. As Montezemolo says, "I want to have different Ferraris for different Ferraristi. We have a lot of parallel activities that can increase revenues without being obliged to produce more cars."
Cutting emissions and being green isn't part of Ferrari's goal, as is witnessed in LaFerrari, a vehicle that pairs two electric motors with a 12-cylinder gasoline engine to pump out more horsepower than road-going Ferrari ever made.
