Mostly unknown GreenTech Automotive (GTA), a "U.S. automotive manufacturer dedicated to developing and producing environmentally friendly, energy-efficient vehicles," says that its factory in Mississippi is nearing completion.

It's in Phase 2, says GTA.

Charles Wang, chairman and CEO of GTA, stated:

"After more than a year of planning, testing and site preparation, we are excited for GreenTech’s permanent home to start taking shape in Phase 2.  The new facility is being designed for a production capacity of 30,000 vehicles per year. We are looking forward to completing the new facility early next year and continuing to create new jobs in northern Mississippi."

Phase 2 will "include the construction of GTA’s manufacturing facility, offices and meeting space in Tunica, Mississippi."

Construction is expected to be completed in December 2013.  Vehicle production will get underway in April 2014.

Currently, GTA assembles the low-production neighborhood electric two-seat MyCar at a pilot facility in Horn Lake, Mississippi.

However, GTA says production (final assembly, we think) of its "new five-seat, All-Electric Sedan" will be done in Tunica and that volume will be substantial.

GTA has a deal with China's JAC.  We believe the deal is that JAC will ship gliders to GTA for final assembly in the US.  The vehicle will be electric and supposedly will offer a range of around 80 miles.  There's no word on price at this point, nor are there any concrete specs.

With GTA's shaky past, we're not convinced that this "new five-seat, All-Electric Sedan" will ever make it to production.  Guess we'll find out next year...maybe?
