In May, the number of registrations of Japanese electric vehicles in Germany fell to one of the lowest levels in the brief two years history since being available there - only 29 - Citroën C-Zero (5), Mitsubishi i-MiEV (12), the Nissan Leaf (11) and Peugeot iOn (1).
Renault Zoe sales pick up speed
This result is about 7.5-fold lower than in April. Surprising is the massive decline in sales of the Nissan LEAF - from 191 in April to just 11 in May, but keep in mind that the strong result in April was due to promoted the vehicle with discounts.
In May, the Renault Zoe partially saved the situation in Germany with 116 registrations, whereby after five months (aka YTD), the number of registrations of all five models exceeded 750 units - Citroën C-Zero (267), Mitsubishi i-MiEV (51), the Nissan LEAF (252), Peugeot iOn (28) and Renault Zoe (159).
Renault Twizy, in the first four months of the year, accounted for 256 sales in Germany.
Meanwhile, May further confirmed poor sales of plug-in hybrid Opel Ampera, which had only 37 registrations and from the beginning of the year only 137.
Sadly, we don't know the number of registrations for electric cars that are also offered in ICE versions like the Smart Fortwo Electric Drive.
Germany still remains one of the leading EV market in the world - without strong financial incentives that we can observes in all other big markets.
