Detroit Electric Roadster Teaser...I'll Be Joining The Electric Party Later Than Expected
No surprise here.
Detroit Electric SP:01 Roadster Delayed At Least One Month...Probably More
Startup automaker Detroit Electric says its flagship electric roadster, the SP:01, will be delayed at least one month due to the automaker's inability to secure a site for production.
This, it seems, will likely be a recurring story, but for now Detroit Electric says production on the $135,000 SP:01 will be pushed back from this August to sometime in September.
Detroit Electric is reportedly attempting to secure a portion of a partially occupied site in Plymouth Township (approximately 30 miles from Detroit, Michigan). However, the startup automaker has yet to finalize the deal.
Additionally, Detroit Electric still needs to hire employees for production of the limited SP:01 (only 999 will be made). The automaker says it needs approximately 100 production workers, but has yet to hire any due to Detroit Electric not securing a site for those future employees to work at.
Detroit Electric hopes to hold a job fair in June.
Much like Tesla Motors, Detroit Electric hopes to accumulate revenue and sign up investors so that it can produce a higher volume electric vehicle after the limited run of the SP:01. This higher volume electric will be cheaper, says Detroit Electric.
But first the automakers needs some employees and a site to produce at. Without those two key ingredients, Detroit Electric's dream ain't going to turn into a reality.
