Of course alcohol and driving don't mix, but as long as the driving is done first, we see no problem with enjoying a brew after.
Brewery Ride and Drive Event
Over the weekend, electric vehicle fans and craft brew aficionados met up at New Belgium Brewing Company and Odell Brewing Company in Colorado for a free electric vehicle ride and drive event. A handful of Nissan LEAFs and Chevy Volts were in attendance.
In the first hour alone, more than 50 area residents showed up to drive the electric vehicles. After the test drives, a free beer token was handed out. The token was valid for one beer that was specially brewed for the occasion: Plug It In Pale Ale.
The idea of the ride and drive event was to promote electric vehicles in Colorado and though it may seem odd to have had two breweries host such an event, it seems it was a success since it exposed electric vehicles to a group of people, most of who admit to have never driven one in the past.
Take, for example, electric vehicle virgin Michael Franck, 56, of Fort Collin, Colorado, who describes his drive like this:
"We’ve got to get rid of our umbilical cord to the Middle East. It’s scary quiet,. You’re moving and there’s something that doesn’t compute. There should be noise if I’m moving. It was smooth."
In celebrating the event, Odell Brewing Company unveiled its first plug-in vehicle charging station.
