With Nissan having just nationally made the LEAF available in the US, it seems corporate finance has quietly decided that now is the time to tweak the lease options for the car. While the price of the car itself has not changed, some numbers behind the scenes have (term, residual, deposit, etc), so now the first number you see in all the ads begins with a 2 instead of a 3, and that is big news at the dealership level.
Starting this month you can now lease a base LEAF SV for $289 a month. (a reduction of $90). But now comes the fine print. The deposit has jumped a $1,000 to $2,999 and the term of the lease has lengthen from 39 months from 36, and there is some fancy residual math going on in the background as well we suspect.
While, no one wants to put out an extra $1,000 up front, we wager that most new car buyers, especially in this segment won't be too upset about having to own the car an additional month. The previous lease offer was $379 over 36 months, with $1,999 down. The higher trim SL model's lease moves down to $319.
