Last Tuesday, Tesla introduced its long awaiting Model X SUV at a live event, close to the EV’s Fremont assembly facility (watch full ceremony here).

From this event, and subsequent early first drive/test drives (here, here), we got our first good look at the 250-257 mile electric utility vehicle, as well as some additional stock footage of the Model X.

However, here is some ‘action’/scenic shots of the Model X to add to the first round of pics that we thought we would pass along (as well as a couple additioaln stock photos).

Best of all, the resolution is great for your desktop…or just to get a better look.

Enjoy!

Editor’s Note: Click to enlarge to full resolution.  And if this sizing still isn’t good enough for you, drop us a line (or a note in the comments) and we be happy to forward along larger – up to 8,832 x 5,894 is available

WOW…GO TESLA GO

does that mean that you’re going to buy one?

NO, he meant GO TESLA GO!

Is it lame using one of these as a desktop background at work at age of 37? I am a bit tempted…

It’s a chick car. You’re better off going with a pic of the Model S. 😉

Please stop with the sexist gender stereotypes.

Vehicles neither have, nor express their owner’s gender identity, or sexual preference.

Bumper / window stickers however, certainly can…

Dont’ know. Can’t you offset a small … something with a BIG car?

No, a flashy fast car is traditionally used to compensate for that deficiency. 😉

I wonder if that movable spoiler does much for range? If it doesn’t, I’d love to see it gone from the cheaper versions.

if you’re driving so fast that the spoiler has much effect, you’re not going to be getting much range in any event. i suspect that the falcon wing doors add more to the cost of the Model X than does the spoiler.

the more i think about it, the more ill-advised the falcon wing doors seem…

Straight from the aerodynamics testing lab of…no comment. That is rubbish, it won’t have much affect on handling until high speed but can have a significant affect on range at normal highway speeds depending on the geometry.

It’s not that simple. The X is also capable of towing. The spoiler is a very intelligent device.

Does it flip out at higher speeds? Not sure if it’s a spoiler or a stow away kammback. If it’s the latter then it will reduce turbulence and help with the aerodynamics.

It does move to different positions. I think I read there are three positions… not sure if that’s including the “stowed” position or not.

I know the obsessive compulsive Tesla Haters that like to do drive attacks here on IEEVs aren’t going to like this but I predict that the X will start outselling the S.
Why?
Because: #1 SUVs often outsell sedans as a segment in the US and also increasingly have the highest growth rates around much of the rest of the world.

#2 The X is really designed to get women into Tesla vehicles and with women increasingly at the higher end of the income scale in the US this is like a match made in heaven. Remember, S sales skew heavily towards males.

Of course, when the Model 3 and its crossover version comes to market the above trends will really accelerate into massive demand for Tesla.

And PS, I told you the haters weren’t going to like this.

#1: in the real world, the highest selling cars in the U.S. are sedans; you apparently live in a parallel universe.

#2: elon musk stated that he believes that equal numbers of men and women will buy the Model X. in other words, there is nothing “suspect” about a guy who drives a Model X versus a Model S.

#3: are you personally adding to the “massive demand for Tesla”?

“#2: elon musk stated that he believes that equal numbers of men and women will buy the Model X. in other words, there is nothing “suspect” about a guy who drives a Model X versus a Model S.”

The Tesla haters that Get Real referenced will probably say that a guy who drives a Model X is subconsciously trying to return to the womb. 😀

that thought never occurred to me; when guys wrote comments suggesting that the Model X was a “chick” car, i drew a different inference. in any event, if i had $100,000 to burn on a car, i would get a Model X over a Model S. i agree that the front end of the Model X still needs a bit more work, but i’m not too crazy about the front end of the Model S either.

Real classy sven. Why don’t you go shill some more for hydrogen or get back to watching donald trump?

If they got rid of those doors, got rid of a superfilter, got rid of the spoiler, got rid of some other extras, and made a 70D model that sold for $60K or less, they would probably sell a lot of them.

But at $80+K? It will always be niche.

you’ve really got to wonder how the Model X is going to scale for regular (i.e. non-hand built, like a Bentley) production. elon musk stated that of the parts of the Model X: “90% of parts for the X are fine, 9% are difficult to deal with, and the final 1% is excruciating”.

It will scale fine. They completely redid the assembley lines at Fremont for higher efficiency production of both models.

I’ve been underwhelmed with the looks of the Model X — lumpy frumpy — but it looks good in the first pic.

I cant find a better lookin suv. I dont much like any suv but this one looks decent.

Personally, I like the looks of the Cadillac CTS better.

Or even the smaller Buick Encore.

I can’t imagine. GM Volt forum members/GM owners Don C and Kdawg don’t like Tesla. In fact, Don C is on record as saying that the Model S is boring, really?

I like the looks of the Model X more than a lot of other CUVs & SUVs. Just think the SRX & Verano look better. I actually do like the falcon wing doors even though many do not.

I don’t *mind* the looks of the Model S either (other than the nose cone), but I also find it bland.

Still have my fingers crossed for the Model 3 to have some pizzazz.

the CUVs that you showed aren’t bad looking but i still like the Model X more although i like the front end designs of both over that of the Model X.

i prefer the Model X design to the Model S. the Model S design is highly derivative: the rear end design is a Jaguar knockoff and the overall profile is pretty standard “sport” design. so i don’t find anything particularly inspiring about the Model S design.

when it comes to the falcon wing doors, i think that they are neat – they just aren’t practical, and the problem that they attempt to solve isn’t important enough for the expense involved. and from a usage perspective, the delays associated with opening and closing the doors are so long (especially compared to a simple swing door) that it will make you think twice about whether you really *need* to open the door to put those groceries in the rear seat, versus putting them in the hatch or front seat.

maybe if you were a bit more open minded about things, you would realize that GM is design is really first rate these days. the ELR, for example, is one of the best designed automobiles in recent years. i might add that the first generation Volt ranks pretty high as well – GM is doing some really compelling designs in recent years; more so than any other auto maker in my opinion.

Well I’m more open minded then you as I currently OWN a Volt which I consider the best PHEV and am currently saving for the best BEV made, i.e Tesla.

kdawg, thanks for actually posting those photos. I’ve repeatedly challenged those scorning the Model X’s looks to post photos of any SUV or CUV they think looks better, and I think you’re the first to do so.

Now, as for whether either of those two is actually prettier or more “sexy” than the Model X… well, no point in arguing about that. “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” I’m sure some will prefer the styles of those GM cars… and some won’t.

It’s a CUV, it’s not a sports car or even a sedan. Basically, it’s a short minivan. What did you expect?

Seriously, for all those slamming the looks of the Model X, please post a picture of any actual production CUV or SUV that you think looks “sexy”. I’ve never seen one, nor do I think the intent of those who buy a CUV is to get something that looks sexy. SUVs and CUVs are made to look “tough”, not sexy.

i guess that’s one of the things that i like about the Model X is that it doesn’t try to look like a “typical” CUV/SUV.

Thanks for the high res images. 🙂

Still lookin’ for one in that Warm Silver / Titanium color…

The red P90DL with dark grey wheels and the spoiler out, looks quite sporty, out on the hunt to eat an X6M, Cayenne turbo or GLE63 AMG.

First world problems: I have a 4K monitor. Got any with ~4000 horizontal pixels?

Just one thing. The big windscreen; I don’t see any fold down shades on it. How do you go coping with glare if you’re driving in the direction of a setting or rising sun?

Sun visor pulls out from a retractable reel in the windshield pillar.

Thanks Flock, I’ve just seen that now on a new posting here. Phew! (didn’t notice them on earlier vids or pics).

Thats the best looking Mazda CX-9 I’ve seen to date

Remember, looks are subjective. However, mark my words, Model X will go down in history as one of the most groundbreaking new vehicles in history based on its dispensing of the customary front grill and the Falcon Wings.

The falcon wing doors are certainly innovative, no question about it. But then, the Edsel’s push-button gearshift was innovative, too.

Am I saying the Model X will be another Edsel? No, I’m saying that innovations which make a part of the car work differently than what people are used to, and also make it more complex, are risky propositions for an auto maker.

Please send me the high res. These are awesome!
