NAVYA Introduces Autonomous Robo Taxi AUTONOM CAB (w/Videos)


NAVYA has launched its all-new, all-electric and fully autonomous, AUTONOM CAB – the first 100% autonomous robo taxi, which is scheduled for market launch in 2018.


It’s can be equipped with either a 22 or 33 kWh battery, good for up to 10 hours of autonomous driving with 1-6 passengers on-board.

The average speed of travel is to be 30 mph (48 km/h), but the 15 kW continuous (25 kW peak) electric motor can get the CAB up to 55 mph (89 km/h).

The AUTONOM CAB is second autonomous EV from NAVYA, after the ARMA introduced few years ago.

Hopefully the CAB has a better public launch than the ARMA, which found itself in an accident in Las Vegas only an ~hour after hitting the road.  The ARMA was not deemed at fault, but the situation could still have been easily avoided – which prompted a NTSB safety probe.

The AUTONOM CAB is capable of self-driving using 10 Lidar sensors, 6 cameras, 4 radars, 2 GNSS antennae and 1 inertial measurement unit (IMU) for at least a triple redundancy across all functions, guaranteeing exceptional reliability.

The following AUTONOM CABS will be delivered for the third quarter 2018. NAVYA has already increased its production capacity in its Lyon-based production facility to cope with the additional sales of AUTONOM CAB. Deployment Partnerships

NAVYA already has various partnership agreements with transport specialists, notably with KEOLIS in Europe and the United States and with RAC in Australia. These partnerships will enable NAVYA to roll out fleets of Autonoms that will operate on the open road in city centers. Other partnerships are set to be announced during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018 in Las Vegas.

That is, assuming it will be legal for this thing to operate on the public streets of Paris.

Yea!!! Now we can finally put those awful cab drivers out of work and ride around in box that will be as clean inside as the men’s bathroom! The future is awesome!! (maybe if you own a cab company)

Not another European point of view

Yuk, only the French can build something this ugly. No, hold on, I recall there was a Fiat van that was as ugly as sin, not to mention the Pontiac Aztec, Nissan Juke, and the new Prius. OK, I take it back. My apologies to the French.

Nonetheless, IMHO this falls into the category of “What in the world were they thinking” from an aesthetic viewpoint.

Looks like a mix of an older Toyota Previa and a japanese van. . and then they took two fronts and welded the two together.

On the other hand.. I’m not sure how much a taxi company focus on looks (compared to price and functionallity).

Must be expensive with all those lidars.

I have not noticed many people choosing a taxi cab company based on the style of cars the company uses.

Maybe it’s different wherever you live in not-Europe? 😉

This could sell better than their previous model. It is more like a conventional vehicle.
