Where is the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV not available?  Well, you definitely can’t get one here in the U.S., but sometime this month the Outlander PHEV will become available in Sri Lanka, meaning buyers can get the Outlander PHEV almost anywhere in the world, as long as they don’t reside in North America.

Per Indian Autos Blog:

“The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV was showcased at the 2014 Colombo Motor Show in Sri Lanka.”

“Visually, the Outlander PHEV distinguishes itself from the regular model by chrome accents for the grill and airdam. The greener version forgoes the rugged looking silver skid plate, but there are no immediately noticeable changes on the interior.”

“The Outlander PHEV will be imported by the brand’s authorized Sri Lankan distributor United Motors Lanka PLC.”

U.S. arrival of the Outlander PHEV is scheduled for late 2015, meaning we’ve still got 12 or so months to wait for this plug-in SUV.

At this point, Mitsu is simply trolling the US.

And I, for one, am not amused.

I would like to think that the next generation will have many of the bugs/kinks worked out.

Maybe even a much better look?
IMO, the front grill of the current design is NOT inspiring.

  4. JRMW says:

This just bolsters my assertion that it is NOT battery supply issues keeping the Outlander PHEV out of America.

Well, at least they’ll be dominant and control the critical car market of Sri Lanka, even though they may lose US market share

Maybe they are going to re-design it for the states….
