Revealed way back at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show (of which we were present for), the Mitsubishi GC-PHEV Concept will finally make its North American debut at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show.

The GC-PHEV Concept foreshadows the upcoming production Pajero, which Mitsubishi describes as “the return of a legend.”

We had a chance to poke around inside and out on the GC-PHEV from Auto China last year and have to say that the size and finish of the upcoming plug-in Pajero should suit the US large SUV buyer perfectly.

Pajero will be offered in a plug-in hybrid variant, according to Mitsubishi:

“the conventionally powered ASX replacement will launch 2016 and the plug-in version will go on sale in Europe and other global markets in 2017. The Pajero replacement and its plug-in version are likely to arrive in 2018.″

Apparently, a GC-PHEV is a Grand Cruiser Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle.

Glad this thing is coming out, but.. Yikes! this thing is not a looker..

And then we have the other vehicle with the name ‘Pajero’.. are you kidding me Mitsu? Do you know what the terms means in spanish?

Does anyone know (or care) what it means in Finnish or Hungarian? Me neither.

Isn’t Spanish the de facto second language of the US? I’m from Canada and I wouldn’t buy this car just because of the name.

I bet you know the Mitsubishi Montero – thats the name the Pajero (a name with a long tradition) gets in spanish speaking regions… and noth america.

Did you know that “Mief”, which sounds no different than (i)MiEV, is the German word for “stink”? And recently with the CHAdeMO vehicle-to-home power system, Mitsubishi introduced the “MiEV-House”… yes, that’s where I want to live – in a stinky House.

I’m shocked how ugly it is.
Not even going for cute ugly, just ugly.

The audi etron means turd in French.
Chevy Nova means “doesn’t go” in Spanish

The biggest issue I see with this Pajero is that it makes the Leaf look cute. Oh and it won’t be released in years.

It sort of looks like an International Harvester Scout that got crushed between two big rigs. I’m all for getting more EREV/PHEVs out there and I’m open to innovative designs but this ain’t good.
