Tesla Model 3 At Unveiling Part 1

The Tesla Model 3 Reservation Queue order may have been discovered by a user on the Tesla Motors Club forum. The forum member (smythey) posted some information that he noticed and others went to work trying to figure out if the assumption adds up. He posted:

People camped out in lines many hours before the Tesla stores opened for Model 3 reservations on March 31st

I was having a good look at the “My Tesla” page, and in the source html there appears to be reference to two unique identifiers in addition to the RN number which is displayed on the page.

The first is called “uid”, and is an 8 digit number. The other, more interesting one is called “ReservationId”, and is a six digit number. My number was “3xxxxx”. I wonder if this an actual indicative reservation number based on the parameters already made public (Date of reservation / region / existing Tesla owner).

Can anyone who lives near Hawthorne have a look at their page and see if their “ReservationId” looks something like x1xxxx? Apparently Tesla/SpaceX employees get first dibs on reservations, but some reservation holders local to the factory should be in the first 20k.

I’m quite aware that this could be utter nonsense, but thought it was intriguing nonetheless.

The post received pages and pages of responses. Some showing that maybe this six digit number, hidden in the HTML source code, has some meaning and others contesting it. If the system is proven accurate, Model 3 reservation holders may have a better idea when they may expect to take delivery comparatively.

UPDATE (June 7th, 9:00 PM ET): Apparently Tesla was not thrilled with people accessing their own reservation IDs (as obviously that could cause some issues down the road if deliveries are not made in priority sequence as suggested by the company), Tesla has now removed the ability to see your reservation ID via the javascript code.

You can still estimate your standing using the Model 3 ID tracker by looking at when and where users reported — Model 3 ID Tracker (Responses) here

As forum members are posting their information about the “ReservationId” along with order timestamps, others are compiling the data and it seems there may be more than a simple correlation. The earlier reservations have a smaller number, and the number grows as time goes on. Specifics as to other information this number may provide are not yet known.

There may be several variables that affect the numbers such as timezones, locations, existing Tesla owners, employees and possibly even car options/pricing. As reservations holders continue to “crack the code” we will update if there are any revelations.

I reserved at about 12:00 PM in a store on the 31st. My “ReservationId” is 382xxx

I reserved a little before you and mine is 3881XX

I live in Michigan and reserved online the night of the reveal.

My number is 419XXX

445xxx about 50 minutes before the streaming

Reserved in store 3/31 11:05(ish)am EST
ID 375xxx.

The lowest numbers being 360 000 -ish, may we assume that 445xxx is about in the 85 000 -ish ?

508299 ~ 7:?? AM EST 4/01

I reserved @ 10:35pm EST and i got 431xxx, matching exactly in the pattern. 🙂

I reserved at exactly the same time, 10:35 pm EST. My ID is also 431xxx.

How does one find this hidden number in the html source code? My reservation page in mytesla only shows a number beginning with RN107. I was second in line on 03/31. So 10:01am in Devon, PA. Viewing the page on iphone 6. No desktop computer.

On My Tesla page, right click on page, properties or examine depending on browser then search for common_reservation_id

On Chrome, right click on page, then “view page source”, then search for “reservationid”.

Apparently no one read your message. You’re on an iPhone 6. There is no “right-click”. You’ll have to wait until you have access to a desktop browser to view the source code.

Honestly, I don’t think it’s correct anyway, so don’t stress over it too much.

My roommate and I reserved cars 6 minutes apart from each other online as the cars were being driven off stage for test drives during the live stream. My number is 482XXX and my roommate’s is 483XXX, but we are 434 numbers apart.

The thing though is we are 30 miles from the factory. The logic behind when you get your car based on these six digit numbers would indicate we’d be down in the lower ranges because of our proximity to the factory, but we are at almost at 500000.

You may or may not see yours before people farther out from the factory. At some point, it’s likely that Tesla will decide they’ve fulfilled enough orders close by and they’ll start focusing on priority based on more distant regions. As an example, I doubt someone who reserves today, with a number likely to be near 800,000, will see their car before me in TN, with a number in the high 412s. Is a 483 still low enough to make the cut in CA and trump a 415 in NY? Nobody knows.

My wife was in line just before me and our reservationid numbers are 125 apart.

I’m also ~30 miles from the factory and reserved 4/1 approx. 11am. My reservation ID is 552xxx.

Easy place to enter your common reservation ID and see it organized in table form

479xxx booked online at 10:xx MDT on 3/31 (just after mindnight 4/1 EDT). This was a few minutes after the reveal presentation ended and I thought, looks pretty cool, ahh, what the…

This reasoning seems to follow. If we call 370000 is roughly first in line, I would be reservation 109,xxx (479xxx – 370000). I was guessing that I was more like 130,000 based on the reservation counts being broadcast toward the end of the reveal event. If there were 20k employee, etc. reservations ahead of that, as suggested above, that would put me at reservation 129,xxx, very close to my guess before hearing about this. So maybe the math is more like your number minus 350000. With 350000-370000 being employee, etc. reservations.

As a side note, I assume the forum post author and all of the other posters mean daylight time and not standard time, since it switched over mid-March in North America and a few days earlier in Europe, all prior to reservations being taken.

My number fits the pattern but is also ~20k too low compared to my own estimate.

So I’d second your theory of the uid number minus 350 000 rather than 370 000.

I don’t really care that much but I don’t think they are ordered exactly according to the request time. Mine is 421xxx. This was online 3/31 prior to reveal as soon as the page became available at 7pm PT. I had the form filled out fast – within 5 minutes of 7. It would have been submitted PRIOR to the 412xxx-419xxx examples shown in the article which were submitted a few minutes to 25+ minutes later.

i live in hawthorne, and no the second number is not a 1

I’m 394111 and about 12-1pm PST.

So what does that say except to confirm the actual time of reservation?

Did we ever find out what the “free gifts” were for those who waited in line at the stores?

Nothing has come in the mail yet. No idea what it would be. T-shirts won’t fly as size would have to be indicated. Maybe a nice Tesla ball cap *shrug*

If history is any indicator, optioned up Model 3s will be delivered to U.S. customers first. Current Tesla owners and Friends of Tesla will be at the front of the line.

The only real benefit of the reservation serial number “may” be to help determine which of two otherwise identical customer configurations might be delivered earlier. A more accurate estimate might be better derived from your distance from the factory/country and estimating final price.

Personally I want to be the last guy in the U.S. to take delivery and still get the tax break. Not to thrilled to be an unofficial beta tester.

That is the $7,500 question. Now we have a little bit more info to use for figuring out how to do it.

Is there a time limit for when you get access to the configurator?

Eat it suckers, I have 37400X @10:45am EST.

These numbers, while interesting, will be difficult to interpret, as Elon has stated many times that West Coast buyers will receive the 3 first, and existing Tesla owners will also receive a priority boost.

There is no ReservationId in the source code when I go to mytesla. I’ve tried the Canadian and American tesla sites. Did they update their website?

Yep, its no longer there. Looks like Tesla felt it important enough to remove it from public view.

You can get a rough idea where you might stand looking at when and where people signed in:
