Lucid Air completes a Laguna Seca lap in 1:41.67 or even quicker…

Lucid Motors recently took the Lucid Air electric car on tests at the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca and set a lap time of 1:41.67 on production 21-inch Pirelli P Zero PZ4 summer tires.

The result is the fastest for electric cars and some 7 seconds ahead of the lap time recently set by a Tesla Model 3.

The time bests that of the Jaguar I-Pace too, which completed a lap in 1:48.18.

The results could be even better with track tires. Using Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R road-legal track tires and pushed harder, Lucid Air was able to clock 1:39.30. Hopefully, the strong performance will encourage investors to give Lucid the opportunity to move into the production phase.

We need specs! How much battery capacity was on board?

It looked stripped down inside so not a production version. They might even have a smaller and lighter battery which would have less range but have more than enough for doing laps at Laguna Seca.

Do they have a production version?

That’s about the time I think a Model 3 Performance would fast lap. I think a Model 3 w/Track mode and with a professional driver will record a mid 1:30s. , Maybe 1:36.

@Mark Kane. You said that Lucid beat the Model Performance by 7 seconds but it was a stock Long Range Model 3 2wd in the linked video. It did have upgraded wheels and tires but I think that does t count as modified.

Looks like the Lucid was not very ‘production’, totally stripped inside, so probably 100s or lb lighter than it would be. Can’t really compare this to any other times.

This article needs rewriting. Author is comparing a stripped, pro driven, 1000 hp one off car to a 271 hp street car and claiming a record has been broken.

And the article was incorrect in stating that it beat a Model 3 Performance. The time they show is from a regular Model 3 LR RWD modified with better brakes and tires driven by an amateur driver.

Would somebody please bring your Model P3D with performance package to Laguna and hire a professional driver like Lucid and Jag. Put all the speculation to bed.

Top Gear had use of a Model 3P as a loaner for one week and never took the car to Laguna Seca which was only a 15 Mile drive. They could have put Randy Probst in a Stig suit and recorded a fast lap for their show. So sad.


Laguna Seca was probably quite busy during Monterey Car Week.

Two errors:

– The times stated are incorrect. The Lucid Air was faster than the Model S.

Model S P100D with upgraded pads & fluid: 1:47.621
Model 3 with Hoosier slick tires, lightweight wheels, upgraded pads & fluid: 1:48.667

– The Model 3 wasn’t a Performance model, it was a RWD Long Range
