Kia Motors officially refuses to break out sales of the electric version of its Soul.  The automaker tells us that these crucial sales figures will never be released.  Here’s how we reported on Kia’s reluctance to release the numbers:

Kia SOUL EV: Despite having no issues accepting the $7,500 federal credit (designed to encourage hitting EV sales targets in the US) against sales of the Soul EV, Kia has decided it’s no one’s business what those sales are (many media outfits, including ourselves have been rebuffed) – a testament to Kia’s true dedication to plug-in vehicles.

Well, perhaps none of that won’t matters as a “source who appears to be in a close relationship with the automaker” has revealed believable sales figures for the Soul EV to Kia-World (a website with no direct affiliation with the automaker).

Without further adieu, here are the Soul EV sales figures for October in both the U.S. and Canada:

  • Kia Soul EV Sales U.S. October 2014  –  109 units
  • Kia Soul EV Sales Canada October 2014  –   14 units

Kia’s goal is to sell 5,000 Soul EVs worldwide in 2015, with the U.S. expected to be the largest market for the electric “station wagon” (EPA classification). With production volumes hampered mainly by constraints at Kia’s factory in South Korea, don’t expect sales to increase past that 5,000 per year anytime soon.

Finally, here’s a look at our October sales scorecard so you can see where the Soul EV placed (note: Soul EV sales of 109 not added to scorecard yet):

Hope ours is one of the 14 counted in Canada. We have our deposit down!

They could sell a lot more of these if they wanted to.

Is the Soul cheaper than the Leaf in Canada? Which one is more roomy inside and more versatile do you think? Looks like there is 10% more range in Soul which is significant.

We tried both and felt that the trunk was much larger on the Soul. The Soul is also safer at least on the small offset frontal impact test if not in 9ther scenarios as well.

The Soul also has nice rear seating and a great warranty. We furthermore really liked the i3 but the trunk and price were not for us.

I regularly drive a Leaf and drove a Kia Soul for 7 days when my Leaf was in the body shop. The Soul (not Soul EV) was a nice drive. It was peppy and I liked the seating position and road view. I did find the gas mileage to be poor and the engine was too noisy. But the Soul EV shouldn’t have those problems. The increased range is attractive but it is too similar to the Leaf. It would take more range in the Soul EV to make me give up my Leaf.

Would be 110 if I could get one in Minnesota. Annoyed.

And 111 if available here in Michigan.

Murrysville EV

Note to Kia:
I have two Kias in my stable right now (Sedona and Optima Hybrid). The Soul EV could replace my Leaf when its lease is up next September, IF you will sell the car in Pennsylvania. If not, I’ll look elsewhere.

Steven

Note to Kia: Make that two in Pennsylvania.

They will sell more like BMW i3 in first year, Kia must build around 15.000 otherwise the customer will complain.
