Kawasaki J – The Hottest Concept at the Tokyo Motor Show (w/videos)

NOV 28 2013 BY MARK KANE 3

This is the most powerful electric vehicle on the planet – over 1 MW – at least we would like to say that looking at the Kawasaki J, but sadly we don’t know what the true power rating of this motorcycle is … and we’ll probably never find out.

You see, this concept is more industrial art than motorcycle.

Maker of J is Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. who came up with the idea to build an electric vehicle with its next-generation high-capacity nickel-metal hydride battery called GIGACELL. But do not get too excited over GIGACELL. These are just 21 Wh/kg cells.

“One of the technologies that Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. is proud to be working on is battery management technology. GIGACELL® is a next-generation high-capacity nickel-metal hydride battery. Capable of rapid charging and discharging, it can be used to stabilise the output electricity of natural energies such as solar or wind power, and is used in SWIMO®, a Kawasaki-developed light rail vehicle that can operate without overhead wires.”

“Using a battery cell as a power source, the “J” 3-wheel electric vehicle is a new urban mobility system that adapts to the type of travel required. Comfort Mode offers a relaxed riding position for city riding, while Sport Mode allows the rider to become one with the vehicle for fun sport riding.”

Enough talk of GIGACELL.  Let’s check out that bike.
