Jaguar I-Pace Production Now Underway

It seems the Jaguar I-Pace is ahead of schedule.
Magna Steyr, the technology and engineering firm responsible for much of the I-Pace’s development and production, had previously stated the following:
Magna started the split production on the BMW 5 Series sedan in March of this year and will commence production of the Jaguar I-Pace, their first electric car, in the first quarter of 2018.”
As it turns out, production of the I-Pace is actually underway right now (confirmed by Magna’s president), so that’s considerably ahead of the previous timetable of “first quarter of 2018.”
Most likely these initial production vehicles will be used for extensive testing, with production of consumer versions still a bit down the road.
We expect to see the Jaguar I-Pace makes it full public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
When the I-Pace debuts, expect it to have just about the same technical specifications as the concept:
- 400 horsepower and 516 pound-feet (700 Newton-meters) of torque from two electric motors
- all-wheel drive
- 90-kWh battery
- 310+ miles (500+ km) range based on (NEDC) / 220 miles (354 km) as per the more realistic EPA tests
- 90 minutes of 50-kW DC charging will fill up the batteries to an 80-percent level
