IKEA recently announced a very progressive new plan to install DC fast chargers at all its stores in Norway.

As an example leading the way for the project, four multi-standard fast chargers were supplied by ABB at IKEA’s Oslo superstore.

The chargers themselves are operated under the Fortum Charge & Drive network.

Today there are about 650 DC fast chargers in Norway and general plan for near term is to add 350 more.

With 1,000 chargers Norway could achieve a 100:1 DC fast charging ratio as the total BEV counter rapidly approaches 100,000.

Excellent. I just submitted a request for them to do the same thing in the US.

Would we ever be that lucky? 🙂

Well, they have installed two ClipperCreek Level 2 EVSE’s at each Canadian IKEA, so far! Maybe in 2017, they might get to adding one DCQC in addition here!

What would happen if Each Furniture Store Chain, Each Fast Food Chain, Each Electronic’s Chain, Each Restaurant Chain, each installed just 2 DC QC’s and 4 Level 2 EVSE’s a cross Canada and the USA? Would that reduce the number of Government Funded Chargers needed, to just those to cover some big gaps?

If Banks, Malls, Gas Stations, Automotive Supply stores, and the like followed suit, there would be very little space needed for other charging needs, beyond Service Center and Rest Area locations, in my guess!

Oh yeah, we still need street side charging for houses without legal driveways, apartment buildings and condos on site charging, and workplace charging!

I guest after that, even the lowly Smart ED, Mitsubishi iMiEV, and the like could get around just about anywhere!

Hey, if you click the source link, isn’t that a Chevy Bolt / Opel Ampera-e in the foreground?
Are these delivering already in Norway?
Kinda strikes me as weird, since Opel only indicated a 2017 launch of the EV.
Questions, endless questions…

Yes it is. No they are not delivering before summer next year.

Or just check out any part of Opel Norways twitter. It’s going crazy about the Ampera-E.

Hurtiglader!

Oh how I like those crazy languages…

Of course I also like to see that IKEA goes big time with HURTIGLADing dingelingdong!

Will they put 4 hurtiglader at every store? Great great great!

My local IKEA only has a crappy Blink L2 charger. And it is expensive!

Progressive?! IKEA UK have had them for years!

How much IKEA furniture can most of the EVs carry? When I bought IKEA furniture the boxes were pretty big, most of the EVs are pretty short and small.
