According to Dave Zuchowski, CEO of Hyundai Motor America, Hyundai’s new luxury brand Genesis will get plug-in hybrids in the future, in line with the changing attitude of the company that saw the addition of the Sonata PHV in late 2015 and the upcoming IONIC plug-in hybrid and all-electric models in the second half of this year.

There are no details about when and which models will be electrified.

The Genesis lineup currently includes the full-size sedan G90, the midsize sedan G80 and soon to get a compact sedan (G70) as well as two crossovers (by 2020).

Plug-in hybrid options are needed to compete with other luxury manufacturers, which also expanding their plug-in hybrid offers (Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Mercedes-Benz, Cadillac or Volvo).

“Some of those [plug-in hybrids] will take the form of the Genesis side of our business,” Zuchowski said. “We believe alternative-propulsion engines are going to be really important — even more important in the luxury market than they are in the mainstream market.”

Because Hyundai’s fuel cells worked out so well, right Sven, See Through, and Three Electrics?

If the engine is anything as smooth as my Sonata PHEV they’ll sell!
