Hubject & Greenlots Announce Charging Partnership On Plug & Charge

After the deal with Electrify America, Hubject announced another partner in North America – Greenlots – in deployment of ISO 15118 Plug&Charge technology, which enables to start charging electric vehicle simply by plugging it in. All the necessary authorization and payments are done automatically without the need of any app or card.

The only requirement is to prepare the chargers and charging networks (in progress) as well as initial registration of particular car (manufacturers are gearing to implement Plug&Charge in new EV models) and user account for billing.

The Plug&Charge is expected to be more convenient for user and we guess it will gain a lot of popularity over time.

Increased charging convenience is always welcome, especially when the current PITA charge card / key FOB / Smart Phone App w/ No subterranean 4G phone reception, billing hassle is involved.

I hope Greenlots, EVgo, or ChargePoint bring a second tier billing option, for those of us who would gladly pay an additional “Greens Fee” for charging with 100% renewable energy, AKA (Solar / Wind / Hydro / Geo T. / Tidal / Unicorn Flatulence, etc.) from the grid.

This additional revenue stream would help advance the adoption of 100% renewable charging spots in the near term.

First positive sign that Shell isn’t going to cap off Greenlots… So that’s cool.

I can’t think of what for would Shell buy Greenlots other than to replicate their DCFC rollout in Europe:

Parking lots at workplaces should have many inexpensive 110 outlets hooked up to this new system for people whose cars are parked for over 5 hours. In most cases, such slow charging is all that is needed to have 100% power when leaving work.
