A Tesla Model X is now a van in the eyes of Green Commuter.

Green Commuter

Green Commuter is a vanpooling service that operates in the Los Angeles, California area.

The company just announced that it “begun its vanpool operation in Los Angeles, using Tesla’s Model-X 7 passenger SUVs.”

Green Commuter states that it has started leasing its “fleet of Tesla Model X electric vehicles to vannpoolers, with a single vanpool between Palmdale and Valencia, and 86-mile round trip daily commute.”

Some 10 or so additional Tesla Model X electric vans will be added to the fleet this Spring. 50 to 80 more units will join on by the end of the year.

Additional details, as well as info on rates and how to pre-register for the service, can be found at the Green Commuter website here.

Filling every seat is the only way to make an SUV “green.” Back in the 1950’s-70s, my dad and his three workmates carpooled to work every day. His Ramblers with three-on-tree and overdrive, put today’s one-butt-EVs to shame.

I understand that things were different then. Imagine four people having the same job, with the same hours, even at one company, for decades today.

Vanpool works fine if you’re 9-5 office worker with stay at home wife who will pick up the kids and fix your lunch to take with you so you don’t have to drive out for lunch. I don’t know anyone like that, especially not fixed work hours.

Even better than vanpool of yesteryears, there are more people telecommuting now. That put any commute vehicle to shame. Unfortunately, there aren’t enough good hard-working managers to make this work well.

My wife worked too, So I always made my own lunch. and a thermos of coffee. I had the time then, because we didn’t have cell phones. 🙂

Oh! And we had jobs actually making things. Hard to do that over the internet.

Those days are gone forever, along with only getting phone calls from friends, or occasionally a wrong number.

This is what we need more carpooling, then they can have the 12 passenger version for an eCab limo shuttle.

Mass transit electrification will pay huge benefits to air-breathing city dwellers.

If you count the money saved with less road congestion this is a true winner! There are park and rides set up all over southern California.

I am glad to see a group doing this, the government has been way behind, they scold about bad air quality but do no car pooling to improve it.
