After 3 months of experienceing”more harm than good” turbulence from the introduction of new incentives – first waiting for them to be announced, then for them to officially start, EV sales growth finally returned to Germany in August.

In total, 1,731 new registrations were logged in August (24% more than year ago), good for a 0.71% market share.

Also of note, all-electric models outsold plug-in hybrids for the first time this year:

  • BEV – 895 (up 8% year-over-year)
  • PHEV – 836 (up 47% year-over-year)

The best selling BEV (and plug-in car in general) in August was BMW i3 (280 including 147 BEV and 133 REx) just ahead of Renault ZOE (256).

Tesla moved 140 Model S sedans during the month, and also 31 Model X SUVs (56 YTD).

Anyone know what model the lone Hyundai was? Has the Ioniq BEV or PHEV just started selling?

They have been on sale in Korea for two months but I dont know if they have made it to Europe….

Most likely a dealer/test car as they’re supposed to launch later this year.

I was a little bit disappointed for the July. Perhaps the rest of this year will be better.
And with the arrival of the Ampera-e (Bolt) next year, the growth will be more importante.
