France Sets New Plug-In Electric Car Sales Record – Over 6,150!

March was the best month ever for plug-in electric car sales in France – 6,157 new registrations is 27% above the previous record in December.

Growth year-over-year in March amounted to 42% at market share for passenger plug-ins of over 2.3% (a new high).

March stats:

  • Passenger BEVs: 4,214 (new high) registrations (up 42%) at ≈1.8% market share (PC)
  • Passenger PHEVs: 1,187 registrations (up 40%) at ≈0.5% market share (PC)
  • Light commercial BEVs: 756 registrations (up 26%)

March’s strong results come mostly from a new record for the Renault ZOE, which achieved its own single-month sales high of 2,245.

Nissan LEAF was second best with 719 new registrations, followed by the BMW i3 (319) and Tesla Model S (162). The Tesla Model X noted 79.

Great performance for Zoe. It could do even better with a more affordable price

Yep. If they start to build this at scale and can somehow sell it €18,000 (including the battery) it would be really competitive with ICE cars in its segment. It already has enough range, just needs a lower price now.

A good BEV with 200 mile range for under $30,000 before tax credits hits the marketing sweet spot IMO.
