Ford Fusion Energi Granted HOV Lane Access in California; Ford Now Ties Toyota for Most HOV-Approved Vehicles
Californians rejoice! Ford’s third HOV-qualified vehicle is here: the Ford Fusion Energi.
The Fusion Energi joins the Focus Electric and C-MAX Energi in Ford’s growing list of HOV-qualified vehicles in the state of California.
Qualification requires that a vehicle be classified by CARB as super ultra-low emissions be certified by EPA to offer a minimum fuel economy rating of 45 mpg on the highway.
Ford joins Toyota as the only other automaker with three HOV-qualified vehicles currently offered as Model Year 2013. Toyota’s HOV-qualified vehicles include the RAV4 EV, the Scion iQ EV and the Prius Plug-In Hybrid.
C.J. O’Donnell, group marketing manager for Ford electrification, plays up Ford’s trio, while ignoring Toyota, stating:
“That Ford has the most 2013 vehicles eligible for HOV lane access in the largest electrified vehicle market in the U.S. underscores our success in truly offering power of choice, especially when it comes to electric and hybrid powertrains.”
Additionally, Ford Fusion Energi buyers are eligible to receive a $1,500 tax rebate in California—in addition to a $3,750 federal tax credit.
But don’t get to thinking that the Fusion Energi’s after-credit price is cheap. With both discounts factored in, the Fusion Energi still costs at least $34, 245.
