# Ford Fusion Energi Charges Itself To Become a Perpetual Motion Machine – Video

Self Charging Ford Fusion Energi

This video was uploaded to YouTube on April 2, 2014…one day after April Fool’s Day.

The thought of a Ford Fusion Energi that charges itself to become a perpetual motion machine is clearly meant to be a joke, but still the video is executed to perfection and it may well convince some that this is indeed a possibility.

The creator of this video goes so far as to explain perpetual motion:

“Perpetual motion describes motion that continues indefinitely without any external source of energy.[2] This is impossible in practice because of friction and other sources of energy loss.[3][4][5] Furthermore, the term is often used in a stronger sense to describe a perpetual motion machine of the first kind, a “hypothetical machine which, once activated, would continue to function and produce work”[6] indefinitely with no input of energy. There is a scientific consensus that perpetual motion is impossible, as it would violate the first or second law of thermodynamics.[4][5]”

The Screens Don’t Lie…Or Do They?

And then even defines the first and second laws of thermodynamics:

“The first law of thermodynamics is a version of the law of conservation of energy, adapted for thermodynamic systems. The law of conservation of energy states that the total energy of an isolated system is constant; energy can be transformed from one form to another, but cannot be created or destroyed. The first law is often formulated by stating that the change in the internal energy of a closed system is equal to the amount of heat supplied to the system, minus the amount of work done by the system on its surroundings. Equivalently, perpetual motion machines of the first kind are impossible.”

“The second law of thermodynamics states that the entropy of an isolated system never decreases, because isolated systems always evolve toward thermodynamic equilibrium— a state depending on the maximum entropy.  The second law is an empirically validated postulate of thermodynamics, but it can be understood and explained using the underlying quantum statistical mechanics. In the language of statistical mechanics, entropy is a measure of the number of microscopic configurations corresponding to a macroscopic state. Because thermodynamic equilibrium corresponds to a vastly greater number of microscopic configurations than any non-equilibrium state, it has the maximum entropy, and the second law follows because random chance alone practically guarantees that the system will evolve towards such thermodynamic equilibrium.”

Does the self-charging Ford Fusion Energi defy the laws of thermodynamics?  Of course not, but for a split second it almost seems believable.

Why not use this video to convince others that perpetual motion machines are possible, provided that they begin by purchasing a plug-in vehicle.

Will they be disappointed when they discover the truth?  Are any plug-in vehicle owners disappointed with their rides?

Is this a joke?

Oh man, I had the same idea for notebook computers, since USB 3.0 allowed to charge devices at 10 amps:

That’s cool, only one problem. USB is 5V, laptop is at least 12V, mine is 19V. That probably won’t work out too well.

Ummm…he says energy goes from powering the wheels, back to the 110 outlet…lol…don’t think so.

The Fusion Energi has a built-in 110V inverter? That’s pretty neat! I wish my Leaf had that. As it is, I installed a wiring harness and a high-power (1500 Watt) inverter under the hood.

Electric energy is converted into mechanical energy to move the car, while it is true that no energy is lost since energy can not be created or destroyed only converted into another form.
Since the conversion process from one energy form to another is inefficient some energy is converted into heat which does not power the car. That energy is not lost either merely converted but it is not mechanical so it can not be used to motivate the car, therefore the 100% energy reading is BS.

Ford lets their plugins shift into gear while still plugged in? Not a good idea if it does.

NPNS! SBF!
Volt#671

No. No they don’t.

So the video of this guy driving around with the plug still attached is a fake? Or maybe he took it out of the 110V outlet before driving? You just can’t trust the internet anymore…

NorskeDiv

Seems legit.
