CarsDirect ranks some of the best plug-in deals on you can find at dealers this month.
Electric vehicle owners know that their EVs and PHEVs are money savers. While most plug-ins have a higher MSRP than an equivalent ICE vehicle, an electric car can actually save owners thousands over the lifetime of the vehicle. One factor is of course lower fuel and maintenance costs. Another obvious financial benefit are the state and federal incentives for purchasing an electric vehicle. But those aren't the only money saving benefits.
For patient buyers, dealer and manufacturer incentives can take thousands off of the price of an EV. Especially for those living in a CARB state. CarsDirect has gathered together some of the best deals on green vehicle buys in the United States for May. The website focused primarily on higher volume vehicles with wide availability, although they do list enticing deals for lower volume cars like the Clarity Electric and the Kia Soul EV. If you can find them on lots.
Here are some of their top electric vehicle buys for the month of May:
2019 Chevrolet Bolt EV
Unfortunately, the 15% discount and 0% APR on the Chevy Bolt EV are both gone. But there are several offers now available that can result in up to $8,500 off MSRP in some areas.
Chevrolet is currently offering a $3,000 rebate plus $2,500 bonus cash available nationally. Those in CARB states can qualify for an additional $1,000 off. Be sure to also shop around - some dealers are giving up to $2,000 Flex Cash in order to tempt those on the fence.
2019 Honda Clarity Electric
The Honda Clarity Electric has low all electric range and a fittingly low monthly lease at an effective cost of only $249/month. But with limited availability even in CARB states, the Clarity Electric will not be flying off the lots.
If the short vehicle range works for you then it could be a great commuter. But don't get too attached to the car. Honda will not allow you to purchase it.
2019 Toyota Prius Prime
The Toyota Prius Prime is eligible for $2,500 cashback and can now be leased for the exact same price as the standard Prius in Southern California. If you take into account the federal and state rebates on plug-in vehicles, the prime ends up actually being cheaper.
However, the 2020 model of the Prime will make some major improvements. So if you wait, you might be able to get even better discounts on the 2019.
2019 Kia Niro Plug-In Hybrid
The Kia Niro PHEV LX has an effective cost of only $332 / month, thanks to some strong incentives on offer. Kia Incentives vary by trim, with the LX eligible for $4,543 lease cash, the EX at $5,543 and the EX Premium at $5,643. The LX lease cash deals are down slightly from last month, but the EX and EX Premium are up. These incentives seem to be nationwide, although model availability is extremely limited in most states.
