Faraday Future – 2017 CES

Faraday Future’s production electric car unveiling isn’t a far away future any more.

And although we had thought we were going to see this vehicle a year ago (but instead got the fanciful, yet wildly impractical FFZERO1), it’s expected that we will see the near-production intent version this time at the 2017 CES in January.

Faraday Future has announced it will now exit “stealth mode” with its presentation of “the future” at the upcoming show in Las Vegas (and yes, we will again be attending live).

Nevada was chosen not only for the unveiling of FF cars, but also as a production site.

Says the company:

1. We founded a company. #FaradayFuture
2. We created a concept. #FFZERO1
3. We joined a race. #FormulaE
4. We unveil the future. #CES2017

FF recently signed a partnership with LG Chem for batteries and recently hired its 1,000th more employee.  Now its time to ‘make with the cars’!

Contrary to their FFZERO1, this vehicle seem to be more in line with a real car and apparently looks like it could be a hatchback. It will be interesting to see their new factory and new car all at once.

High dollar, gimmick loaded, crazy fast, electric cars seem to be everywhere. I am still waiting for the 200 mile range, $20K appliance that will make EVs competitive with ICE.

In the story of the race between the “Tortoise and the Hare,” (spoiler) the hare fell asleep and lost. Though they may get side-tracked Tesla is not going to fall asleep.

January will be interesting. Lots revealed that month, in the EV segment.

FF=Faraday fantasy

We’ll see how this pans out…

I’m so excited I cannot for more BS from the headquarters of the BS..Faraday….You’re so far away ..

Queue anticlimax.

Faraway Future has shown exactly nothing except the sort of teasing befitting of a company that has proved it can do amazing things. They look to me like a child’s idea of a cool car company.

I know InsideEVs considers that because they have many enployees and investors with money they must be real” in some sense. Maybe so. But a real disaster is a real possibility.

Well, it’s good that FF is moving toward showing what might — given the history of the ultra-hype from this company, you’ll pardon my skepticism — might be an actual, practical, functional prototype for a mass produced EV… and not that ridiculous “batmobile” faux prototype that doesn’t have a drivetrain.

For their next baby step toward looking more like a real company, perhaps they can come up with a practical design for a factory, instead of that equally ridiculous escapee from a “Tron” sequel, which they’ve been showing on their website.

I think the State of Nevada was right to put a hold on the deal they made for funding and/or tax breaks. The level of hype here is an order of magnitude beyond Tesla Motors’ hype, and that’s saying quite a lot.

If I was looking for a startup to invest in, I would run, not walk, away from Faraday Future.
