Elon Musk: Tesla Model 3 Release Date And “News” To Be Revealed Sunday

Tesla Model 3 release date to be revealed on Sunday…perhaps the online configurator too?  (render via Model3Config)

It is only the news some ~400,000 people having been waiting for since March 31st, 2016.

Today, Elon Musk has said that he plans to announced the release date for the Tesla Model 3…on Sunday, July 2nd, 2017.

Up until now, all we had heard on the arrival for the Model 3 was that it was on track to make deliveries before July’s end.  And given that tomorrow is the start of July – some anxious reservists seemed ready to explode.

Will the full pricing details and specs also be revealed?  Could the online Design Studio/configurator go live early?  Who knows.

What we do know is that Elon Musk has said “…we have kept the initial configurations for Model 3 very simplein order to maximize early production; we are talking the choice of color and wheels – that’s it.  Further option and AWD are targeted for the end of 2017/early 2018.

See you then!

“…initial configurations for Model 3 very simple”

Is Elon in the habit of dropping his verbs or was he misquoted?

    1. Jay Cole says:

Lol, no. Perhaps we clipped the statement a bit early. We make that snippet a touch longer, (=

      Full quote:

“…we have kept the initial configurations for Model 3 very simple”

    2. Someone out there says:

Elon is so busy, he doesn’t have time for verbs

So now, the announcement of the date on which the actual news is to be announced… is itself “news”.

Elon plays media buzz rather like… 😀

Nah, he should have announced the date on which he would announce the date of the announcement of the final reveal of the initial version(s) of the car…

      He missed several steps…

Now that’s a tweet every American can love👏.

    1. Dav8or says:

Why? I’m pretty sure there are several hundred million Americans that don’t really care what Elon has to say. I personally find all this tweeting to tease the press and create buzz pretty annoying.

Set a date and stick to it. It’s really that simple. The more he drags this out, the more I start to think that production is really behind.

  5. Josh Bryant says:

Man, I wish Tesla was doing a grey like the one in the rendering up there. No sightings of that color give me little hope.

I wanted the flat black, but pretty sure that will be a Perf model only color and released later.

    1. Mike I. says:

Getting a black car and wrapping it in XPEL Stealth will give a much better result than actual flat black paint.

      1. Josh Bryant says:

Thanks for that tip. I’ll check into it.

  6. Tom says:

July/August/Sept will just be a couple hundred coach built cars for employees. They get to say they ‘started production’ but they don’t have the machinery in place to fully launch. Model X had literally single digit roll out months of 6, 4, and 5 vehicles delivered respectively for the first 3 months. There is no evidence to suggest otherwise for Model 3.

    1. floydboy says:

Completely different issue with Model X, from which they learned a valuable lesson.
Expect around 3000 to 5000 Model 3 deliveries in July and August. Some preconfigured cars may already be built as we type.

    Which Sunday? 😀

    1. Gazz says:

      Sunday 30th July 😉

        Which Year??? Just Kidding.

  8. Terawatt says:

    Yawn.

    1. Mister G says:

No yawning here…I save my yawns for nissan, VW, toyota, BMW LOL

    TESLA PARTY SUNDAY NIGHT

    What am I missing?
“News on Sunday” doesn’t explicitly say Tesla will announce the release date then, just that some relevant news will be made public. It may just be something like “we’re still on track for initial deliveries to employees in July, and to non-employees in Q1’18”

    1. Mark.ca says:

Some are just happy to put an end to all the crazy speculations going around Tesla, I guess. It’s unreal how much hype this company can generate.

  11. Phr≡d says:

So if I buy the black RWD yawn early model, then does my New reservation get moved up, since I am Now a Tesla owner?
(just trying to justify the beating I’ll suffer for delivering a RWD car to the superior half, living in the midwest, LOL)

  12. Elon hurry! says:

    Its Sunday! Where’s the news???

    1. Jay Cole says:

It’s coming, we waiting on it…and will have it up the second any news is out of course, (=
