Yesterday, following the Tesla/SolarCity merger, CEO Elon Musk took to the stage at a special shareholders meeting to host a brief questions and answers discussion.

Though much of the conversation focused on solar, incentives, technology and so on, several Tesla-specific questions were asked too, including when “Part 3” of the Model 3 reveal would occur (answer here).

“Elon Musk answers questions from investors at a special shareholder meeting regarding Tesla’s proposed acquisition of SolarCity. Prior to Elon taking the stage, general counsel Todd Maron announced that shareholders had approved the merger by more than 85%.”

We apologize in advance for the poor video quality. The audio is okay (though on the quiet side), but the video appears as though it was captured on a cell phone from the bygone days.

Did anyone ask about toilets? 😉

I’m still trying to do the mental math on how the SC roof would be cheaper than a regular roof. The numbers don’t work out in my head, but I’ve never had to put a new roof on a house before – all I have to go on are the flip shows on HGTV.

Well up-front costs will be more for SC roof than a traditional roof because of materials and electrical contractor required for installation but long term usage will save homeowner money. FYI, North Pole temperature is 30 something degrees above average, humanity needs to move fast and cut greenhouse gas emissions because the shit has hit the fan.

Stop that, you’re scaring me!

Well Trump says there is no such thing as global warming. I think I will adopt his mind set but in a different regard and act as if there is no such thing as Donald Trump.

More political bulls***. Let’s talk about EV’s here, instead of your insecurities.

Global warming is one the main drivers for Elon Musk getting into evs and solar power is concerned about reducing the impacts of said warming.

The fact that our president elect denies it exists does not favor action to ameliorate said warming. Even if some people don’t understand this, it is important to remind them.

He also said he believes in tackling air pollution via regulations, so that basically covers tackling climate change.

He indicated he’s comment on climate change being a Chinese hoax was a joke.

There are numerous examples of inflammatory or stupid things he said that when his campaign got too much heat for it and his standing in the polls would drop as a result he would then announce what he said was “just a joke”. One example: “Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing. I think you would probably be rewarded mightily by our press,” he said at the news conference. When pressed about it later in the same news conference, he said “I hope they do” find the emails. After a few days of bad press: “Obviously I was being sarcastic and a lot of people really smiled and laughed. It was said in a sarcastic manner, obviously,” he told Fox News. Another example on Obama and Clinton being the founders of ISIS: “He is the founder in a true sense,” he said in the Florida rally Thursday night. And when pressed to clarify in interviews Thursday, Trump insisted he had said what he meant. “No, I meant he’s the founder of ISIS. I do,” he told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt Thursday when pressed on whether he actually meant that Obama… Read more »

He played the media. He made controversial statements to make the news. The dumb left wing media still has not figured it out. He played them for the suckers they are.

You appear to be describing those who voted for Trump.

Looks like the joke is on you, if you believe anything coming out of Trump’s mouth.

Searching Google News for “Trump EPA”, the top link is this: “Trump’s Climate-Denying EPA Pick Also Thinks Pesticides Are Harmless”

This is how fascism comes to America, not with jackboots and salutes (although there have been salutes, and a whiff of violence) but with a television huckster, a phony billionaire, a textbook egomaniac “tapping into” popular resentments and insecurities, and with an entire national political party — out of ambition or blind party loyalty, or simply out of fear — falling into line behind him.

I will pass on reading what the Post has to say. Bezo’s tried his best, but Donald still won. What a poor loser, with all the attacks coming from the Post now. I would have paid good money to see how Bezo’s reacted the night Trump won. What a joy that would have been.

Elon said yesterday that the price to install the solarroof is lower then a normal roof, the electricity is just a bonus.

He said most of the cost is for transportation of the bulky fragile existing tiles. His glass tiles are light and resistant, thus easy to manage.

Savings on the cost of the roof, plus the savings in electricity over the lifetime of the roof, is what he said.

He never said that the roof is cheaper than a standard roof, and that electricity was a bonus.

Oh you said yesterday. That’s different than what he claimed at the solar roof reveal.

Another Euro point of view

Does this mean that now Solarcity ceased to exist as a legal entity and will be/is fully merged with Tesla or does it simply mean that all Solarcity shares are now owned by Tesla, solarsity continuing to exist as a fully owned subsidiary of Tesla ? I am still confused on that one.

When he mentioned the cell efficiency of low to mid 20’s % does he mean that if you compare a Sunpower x21 black panel which measure 1.6m sq and produces 335w that the same amount of roof space will actually be able to produce the same or better ?

Yes, it should give about the same amount of power in by the same space.

That does sound tempting as I am about to have my house re-roofed and later cover it in said panels !

Lending credence to those who flag the Bolt as a compliance car. It has some of the earmarks of said category which is just fact, but I think of it more as a crossover compliance car, a transitional phase.

For one I don’t think Chevy could even get it up to 300k a year even if they made it the main focus of their car production.
Plus it takes longer to get to the incentive cut off if you are only making 20k a year. As Musk points out the incentives are not aimed at high volume production.

Hah! Elon calls it the Chevrolet Volt-B. I feel bolstered with my nomenclature. Regarding the roofing price, I doubt Elon means that the Tesla Energy solar roof will be comparable to an asphalt shingle roof. I think he means the slate, ceramic and wood shake roof materials. Asphalt shingles are like wax crayons: a product made from the waste of processing crude oil.

Yes, he should have said comparable product, certainly not asphalt. Most code now require complete tear-offs, you can’t stack 3 or even 4 layers of shingles on top of each other as was allowed previously. So these days getting a new roof will cost more, but a 30 year asphalt, don’t get the 25 year, vents, drip edge etc…for 5k-7k for 1k sq. ft. home. Prices may vary by region. Codes in coastal areas will raise costs.
