Electric GT Releases Videos Of Race-Ready Tesla Model S


The upcoming Electric GT (EGT) racing series has enthusiasts excited with anticipation. The EGT released a video showcasing the race-ready Tesla Model S. The short video shows the 416 horsepower Model S P85+ racing on the track, and focuses on the various aspects of the car, noting modifications. The once all-electric family sedan, is fit to take on other electric race cars on some of the world’s most famed circuits, including Nürburgring.

The most obvious mods are the huge rear spoiler and the widened body kit. The car also features Pirelli slicks and upgraded brakes. Other mentions include:

  • A roll bar – not only for safety, but also to lessen chassis flex and aid in cornering
  • Suspension modifications including a coil spring with dual dampers
  • A fire extinguishing system
  • Gutted interior
  • 5-point harness
  • Racing bucket seat
  • Carbon fiber door panels, trunk lid, and front lip spoiler

Founder and CEO of Electric GT, Mark Gemmel, has invested all of his money into the project, with the goal of exposing people to sustainable transportation and all-electric racing. He recently presented for TMC (Tesla Motors Club) Connect. Check out the video below:

Nice list of modifications, but ah…

Cooling? As in, the Model S’ Achilles heel? The stock version can’t even make it around the ‘ring once at max performance before it saves itself from heat death. And I see no big radiator up front, so…?

Indeed, I read this article expecting to see details about an amped-up cooling systems, to turn the Model S from a mere 1/8 or 1/4 mile dragster into a car that can actually go the distance on a racetrack.

How disappointing. 🙁

Did you guys watch the video? Between 14 and 14.5 minutes in, he addresses it and sounds very confident that they can solve that problem. I would think that the dual motor models would be easier to cool but they don’t seem too bothered.

Yeah, that’s what Tesla does to get the max performance, focusing on short acceleration sprints and allowing the motor to get very hot. But it is about completely done after 1/4 mile. Not at all sure a big radiator would solve the problem, got to get the heat out of the motor first. I believe the core is oil cooled, so maybe chill the oil and pump it through faster?

Supposedly the heat removal from the stator is the problem (since they use electromagnets). Haven’t dug into it – but I’m wondering if the Concept One and the new NextEV car (forgot the name of it right now) use permanent magnets instead.

Also sidebar; does the Model X suffer from overheating issues when continuously towing up a long grade? There are some big pulls here in the BC mountains at high speed (going from Kelowna up to the top of the Connector for one, over 1,300 m in about 30 km).

Why not the P100D with the new update?

maybe they’re only gonna race when its below 32 degrees outside.

Celsius or Fahrenheit?

It’s not going to be easy to garner an acceptable return, financial or otherwise, in a race series creation and promotion event in which you develop and field a car and also set the rules other entrants need to follow.

Piston engine tech will always rule whether on the street or track. This s hit is just plain stupid.
