Electric Circuit, the largest public charging network in Québec, recorded significant growth of charging network usage.

They now provide charging services to over 6,500 users (including 3,000 new in 2015), which would be equal to roughly 80% of all EV drivers registered in Québec.

Satisfaction surveys show a high 93% score of “satisfied” or “very satisfied”, with 1,004 respondents intotal.

According to the Electric Circuit, the company offers 577 AC Level 2 charging stations and 29 DC fast chargers (up by 217 and 21 respectively in 2015).

Total number of charging sessions recorded last year stands at 46,465 (growing usage increased to 6,300 sessions a month). On average, every user was charging about once a month, it seems.

France Lampron, Director – Transportation Electrification at Hydro-Québec, on behalf of the Electric Circuit’s founding partners said:

“We are delighted to see the road we’ve travelled this year: more and more plug-in electric vehicle owners now have an Electric Circuit card. The Electric Circuit’s growing popularity among these car owners more than justifies its purpose and encourages us to continue expanding the network to meet their needs.”

Interesting, they charge by time connected, not time charging.


Fast-charge station (400 volts)
Fast-charging is offered at $10 per hour and is billed by the minute.

The bill is calculated based on the total time connected to the station, not the duration of the charge or the total energy transfer. To have access to a charging station in a parking facility that charges fees, parking fees must be paid as they are not included in the charging cost.


For DCFC, charging by connected time would be great. That should discourage people from plugging in and going away for hours like they sometimes (or often) do in CA.


All our DCQC (called BRCC here in Québec) are 50 kW nominal, dual standards, as pictured above.

The green dots are the online L3, the red dots on the maps are the ones “projected” 400V. So, the total of DCFC should almost / close to double in 2016.

The most important bit of missing info is … how many of 50,000 sessions were at DC (typically under 30 minute sessions) compared to number of sessions at AC outlets (typically lasting multiple hours).

With 606 charging stalls (29 DC + 577 AC) for an average of 82.5 sessions per stall. The 82.5 sessions/stall equates to an average of a charging session once every 4.42 days, or ~1.6 sessions per week.

My guess is a subset of the charging stalls gets very high usage, while a large number go hardly used. Data on which locations get (or not) used is very important as charging will be located where it is needed.

Hopefully EVSE services like Electric Circuit will soon realize the importance of data on “number of charging sessions” per week, or day. ie: it’s not the number of charging stations deployed; it’s the number of charging sessions delivered per location that really counts!


With very few exceptions, majority of the partners owned L2 were $2.50 flat fee per session until recently. Now, most of the partners L2 would charge $1/hour, which should increase topping charge at grocery, hardware store, shopping mall, etc.

$1Can for 1 hour is a pretty good deal.

Of course this is the perfect set up for evs.

It would be interesting if those in the area would tell me what the price per kwh is, and whether almost all homes in the area are electric heat.

In any event, with the electricity being so cheap and the gasoline being relatively pricey, there’s probably no better place for electric cars.

Most homes in Quebec have electric heat.


It shows less than $0.06/kWh up to 900 kWh per month! How the heck do they get it so cheaply? We’re paying $0.17/kWh at lowest rate, $0.38/kWh after 800 kWh in SoCal. And these are in USD!


And is 99% hydro and wind power.

Government ask for X Revenue, Hydro-Quebec Production bill Hydro Quebec Distribution X$/kwh etc etc & just raise the bill of the customer to achieve the target. Don’t get me wrong, I’m proud of the green energy Hydro-Quebec is producing but if these company was managed like a private company , revenue would be way higher. My wife is working for them and if you saw all the waste of money and time spent for nothing, it’s a shame… How many of these 3 billion goes to the public debt? Probably not enough

The up to 900 kWh per month at the lower rate is capped at 30 kWh per day. So, even if your overall monthly consumption is less than 900 kWh, you will often exceed the daily limit on days you fully recharge your car and have to pay an extra two-cents per kWh.

No. first 900kwh(for 30 day month) are at .056+tx . so if one day you consumed 20kwh & next day 40kwh, same price apply…for Now!
with the old meter, they had no way to know how much per day. it was just a total after 2 month. Now with electronic wifi meter, they can know how much per day & at which time of the day you consumed it. I guess it open the way to peak period rate…

between .085 to .10$ tx in /kwh vs 1.30$/LITER (before oil barrel drop) now it’s 1$/liter.
It cost me around 40$ of electricity for 7000km on a Brammo Empulse R plus 20$ of free charging from my work. Half of canadian electric vehicule are in Quebec.

I keep saying I don’t understand why Califorians so willingly pay such high electric rates. Maybe it is because everyone is rich there.
