Is NASCAR going electric?  Sort of…

NASCAR President Mike Helton inaugurated one of the eight newly installed Eaton charging stations at the International Motorsports Center.  That’ the office tower where both NASCAR is based and it’s across the street from Daytona International Speedway.

Helton, who drives a 2013 Ford C-Max Energi, was on hand to celebrate the announcement that Eaton is now the “Official electric vehicle charging solution provider of NASCAR.”

The eight chargers are free to use and will be available to employees and guests of NASCAR.

The deal with Eaton is part of NASCAR’s ongoing Green initiative.  Though the installation at the headquarters is “a bit symbolic,” admits Helton, the idea is that more NASCAR sites will soon feature electric vehicle charging options.

Now we just need NASCAR to hit the track in electric vehicles.  Wouldn’t that be a sight to see!

With Tesla able to swap a battery faster than you can fill a gas tank, I would think that it’s only a matter of time before we see EVs ON the track…
