Dubai Officially Deploys Tesla Model S, X Taxi Fleet

SEP 19 2017 BY MARK KANE 10

Just few months after opening the first Tesla showroom and service center in Dubai, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) launched a 50-strong taxi fleet with new Model S and Model X EVs for the Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC).

50 Tesla Model S/X taxi in Dubai

The purchase of Teslas was ordered by Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The long-term goal is to transform Dubai into the smartest city in the world, and the locals feels that Tesla all-electric vehicles are the most advanced in self-driving world today (at least hardware is ready and the software is awaited).

“The move of adding Tesla electric cars to the taxi fleet is in line with the Green Economy for Sustainable Development Initiative of Shaikh Mohammad and the Dubai Smart Autonomous Mobility Strategy aimed at converting 25 percent of total journeys into driverless journeys by 2030, according to a Gulfnews report.”

Currently only several percent of Dubai’s revenues comes from oil.

It’s refreshing to see that there’s a limit to the influence of the ICE manufacturer’s cabal and greasy American Auto Dealer’s Association.
Sad that you have to go to Dubai to get out from under that influence.

O. Brother. Give it a rest. I’m pretty sure you don’t have to go to Dubai to buy a Tesla.

You know you have too much money when……

Seriously right. When you are dripping in oil $ a Tesla, or any expensive car really, as a taxi doesn’t sound too lavish.

Amsterdam Taxi Airport bought over 150 Tesla’s 2 years ago, and that isnt a rich country.

The Netherlands is doing well compared with many other countries.

Go Dubai Go.
When Dubai’s oil production went down, they moved into trade, then tourism and built the World’s tallest building and many malls, then they started data centers and manufacturing as well.

Only Abudhabi has oil, and Dubai is 1 of the 7 emirates(kingdoms).
Don’t confuse Dubai with primitive Saudi Arabia.

These Tesla taxi’s will attract more tourists besides reducing pollution and also saving oil.

Wow. Go Dubai.

Why is Australia so backwards. Help!!! Get me out of Australia. Country is run by idiots.

This is a slap in the face to all the Oil Executives who travel to the UAE to do all there Middle-Eastern “Dirty” Business.
I’m surprised this wasn’t implemented in LA of San-Fran first.
