Development of Electric Audi R8 e-tron Still Underway…Limited Production Run a Possibility
As it turns out, the electric Audi R8 e-tron isn’t exactly dead in the water.
If you recall, we reported back in October that the Audi R8 e-tron project was on hold pending a complete review. At the time, it seemed as though the R8 e-tron was no longer a priority for Audi.
Flip forward to now and you’ll discover that development is still underway on the electric R8. According to Audi enthusiast site Fourtitude, the review is complete and progress continues on Audi’s electric supercar.
Here’s what we now know of the R8 e-tron: it will be rear-wheel drive, boast of coefficient of drag of 0.27, crank out 376 horsepower, 604 pound-feet of torque and zip from 0 to 62 miles per hour in 4.2 seconds. Weight checks in at 3,924 pounds, the lithium-ion battery pack tips the scales at 1,272 pounds and range is estimate at 133 miles on Europe’s rather lenient test cycle.
Production still seems to be questionable, but Fourtitude claims a limited number of R8 e-trons will eventually be built. Though it’s certainly not dead, a launch date for the R8 e-tron is anyone’s guess at this point in time.
