Daimler announced the presentation of its first electric bus scheduled for 2018.

The German manufacturer, who recently introduced a new natural-gas-driven city bus Citaro NGT, expects that new electric buses will quickly enter production after 2018.

Daimler intends to attract orders by offering different battery sizes for different routes.

The company’s battery experience from plug-in cars is mentioned as an advantage for Daimler.

Hydrogen fuel cell buses will apparently follow after battery-electric ones.

Hopefully when the say hydrogen buses after electric, they really mean never

MB will just dillydally. For them Diesel is at the core just like for Volkswagen.

Since they invented Combustion engine, they won’t move to alternative unless they lose the market share.

“they won’t move to alternative unless they lose the market share.”, so I guess BYD, the Proterra Catalyst FC and others incuding Volvo, are a concern as they expand offerings in the BEV Bus world, and they need to get the word out to their customers: “Wait! Don’t buy their bus, we are coming with our Battery Electric one soon!”

You are right. But until 2018 I guess BYD allone will have sold some 40-50.000 Busses, running 100% pure electric.

“The company’s battery experience from plug-in cars is mentioned as an advantage for Daimler.”

Is this some kind of twisted self-irony?

Daimler has had EV experience a century ago and tried it and they failed because of poor isolation and too short a range. Benz invented combustion engine, it sustained in the market.
