The public has been waiting a long time for the Cadillac ELR.  We have been waiting a long time for the ELR.

It has been almost five years since the concept ELR (then called the Converj) debuted in January of 2009; so you can forgive us for being more than a little impatient ourselves.  We want to take one for a spin already!

But what to do to pass the time as the ELR heads into production in a couple months?

Well, why not hit up the Cadillac ELR mini-site that is now online, as some of the car’s features and paint colors are available for you to mess with interactively?

Entitled the “visualizer” it lets you equip the 35 mile, extended range Caddy with either:

  • 20″ wheels with “Ultra-Bright Machined Aluminum with Blade Silver Painted Pockets” or
  • 20″ wheels with “Ultra-Bright Machined Aluminum with Midnight Silver Premium Painted Pockets”

OR why not select a color?

  • Black Raven
  • Radiant Silver Metallic
  • Chrystal Red Tintcoat
  • Graphite Metallic

On the inside, you can choose from three interior color schemes – all with understandably ‘premium’ names:

  • Kona Brown with Jet Black Accents
  • Light Cashmere with Medium Cashmere Accents
  • Jet Black With Jet Black Accents

The site also gives all the background information on the car and its abilities, while promising the car’s arrival in “early 2014.”  Sadly, still no pricing announcement; although with only a limited run planned, GM has said to expect its premium product to have fairly robust pricepoint and that people will “scramble” to get one.

Sidenote:  We happen to know that the “Black Raven” with “Jet Black Interior With Jet Black Accents” will definitely be fastest, longest range, and coolest of all available ELR options.

This smaller CTS($38k) plug-in hybrid looks nice, and should start at $49k. Comparing it with the $10k premium for the Fusion Energi Titanium vs Fusion Titanium.

I’m a Ford fan but that seems like a stretch of a comparison.
* Light-emitting diode (LED) headlamps, daytime running lamps and taillamps, as well as signature front and rear lighting elements
* Interior design featuring cut-and-sew accented leather incorporating sueded microfiber, chrome, wood and available carbon fiber finishes throughout
* Cadillac CUE with Navigation is standard. CUE is Cadillac’s breakthrough system for connectivity and control, using Natural Voice Recognition, capacitive touch and hand gestures used on smart phones and tablets
* Cadillac’s advanced active safety features, including Safety Alert Seat, Forward Collision Alert and Lane Departure Warning, along with available Side Blind Zone Alert with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and full-speed-range adaptive cruise control
* Advanced chassis and suspension systems, including HiPer Strut front suspension, compound-crank with Watts link rear suspension and Continuous Damping Control, which adjusts damping every two milliseconds for optimal ride and handling in all conditions
* Standard premium Bose 10-channel audio system with >active noise cancellation<.

etc, etc.

I can’t afford an ELR but I wouldn’t mind having that Bose system in my Volt. This Cadi should be a sweet ride!

Aye Jay,

You have described the only car that I would remotely consider to replace my Volt!
