Until our robot cars can take the kids to piano practice all by themselves, someone is going to have to buckle up in the driver’s seat. If you’re the kind of parent who’s too busy – or just not that interested today, thank you very much – to drive the little ones to practice, then you might like a new announcement from Chrysler and Kango.

Kango is a ridesharing service based in California, and Fiat Chrysler wants to make all those shared rides a bit greener with a new “affordable” lease option for the plug-in Pacifica Hybrid minivan for Kango drivers in San Francisco. Currently, Kango has over 250 screened drivers providing rides for kids today, so it’s not like FCA is going to move a whole lot of sheet metal with this offer. Still, a better deal on a plug-in minivan is a good thing, especially if you’re going to spend the afternoon from soccer field to soccer field.

Chrysler is working a lot of different angles to get parents to think about buying the Pacifica Hybrid. It’s bringing the minivan to Sesame Street, for example, and advertising it with flying pigs.

August 7, 2017 , Auburn Hills, Mich. – The Chrysler brand and Kango, an app-based, on-demand service providing safe, reliable rides and childcare for kids from preschool to high school, today announced a new partnership that will make available new Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans for use by eligible Kango drivers. In this first-of-a-kind partnership between a family rideshare service and an automaker in the U.S., the Chrysler brand will make a fleet of new Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans available to eligible Kango drivers, for an affordable lease, to promote safety and environmental stewardship and to provide a best-in-class ride.

The California-based Kango will deploy the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid vehicles in San Francisco beginning in fall 2017. The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans will be used by Kango’s pre-screened, trusted drivers to transport riders in the San Francisco Bay area.

Who cares if they don’t build any cars?

And they need to allow towing.

They are the first industry wide to have a plugin hybrid that allows going some 30 miles without the gas engine kicking in. They have not made many yet, but that should change soon. Its like a Volt in Minivan format, honda and toyota have nothing like it.

If you floor it, the engine will come on. Same with using the heat.

But in general, you are right. It is similar to how Ford Energi or Audi E-tron cars operate.

Isn’t that what the Volt has been doing, but better, for a number of years. I floor mine all the time and the engine never kicks on.

They sure are advertising a lot for a product you can’t buy.

Only due to the recall. They’ll be happy to get people ordering so they can get the credits in quickly after they fix the diode issue.

Our 2004 Pacifica’s engine seized and left us stranded and without a car! Catastrophic engine failure at 116K miles! No warning, all scheduled maintenance done, fluids all good, no engine light warning, etc. Called Chrystler Care and they said they were “baffled” but said “well we can’t do anything for you!” Dealership charged me $105 to evaluate even though car was dead! Donated it to Make A Wish! I will never buy a Dodge Chrysler Jeep Fiat again! Ever! Buyer beware!

Of course that Pacifica has no relation to this Pacifica, but the PHEV rollout has been a disaster, with 5 month delays before delivery and then Traction Inverter Module failures within 5 days.
