Doing A Dance To Celebrate The Fact That The Chevy Volt Has Not Been Hit By GM’s Extensive Recalls This Year

A thorough search of General Motors and federal recall records conducted by TheDetroitBureau.com concludes that only 3 “key” General Motors’ models have not been recalled by the automaker this year:

  • Chevrolet Equinox crossover
  • GMC Terrain
  • Chevrolet Volt

TheDetroitBureau adds that some product variants, including the electric version of the Chevy Spark (Chevy Spark EV) have not been listed in any of the 54 recalls announced thus far by General Motors this year.

So, 2 of the 3 plug-in vehicles that General Motors makes have escaped the GM Recall Of 2014.

As NBC News reports:

“GM’s recall numbers are daunting: 54 separate recalls in just six months affecting nearly 26 million vehicles sold in the U.S., nearly 29 million worldwide. That works out to one separate recall nearly every three days. GM has a record for any individual manufacturer, and has pushed the overall U.S. auto industry to an all-time record, with manufacturers collectively recalling about 39 million vehicles in just six months, 20 percent more than the previous peak for all of 2014.”

Nice to see the Volt and Spark EV were not involved in recalls, a testament to how well-engineered and planned they were.

However, it’s unfortunate that the recall stigma will certainly affect sales of these great plug-ins.

Even more unfortunate that Eric decided to remind us of the Chevy Volt dance! j/k 🙂

These 2 cars don’t actually use a “Key” and cylinder, so no big surprise there.

GM did reach the #1 status though.
On “Total Recalls”……lol

Good thing we the people bailed out this company.
Next they’ll ask for a Govt backed low interest loan to fix all their screw ups.

There were many recalls not related to key/cylinder.

The bailout talk gets tiring, especially considering it was a fraction of the bailout money given to the banking industry. Do you hide your money under a bed instead?

You mean do I trust myself with *my money* more than the failed financial institutions that caused the recession?
Surely that’s a rhetorical question.

My guess is you have money in banks. Prove me wrong.

When will GM get its ass to Mars?

The low coolant issue fir the Volt is a physical issue that needs correction and testing by certified mechanics. Other than name, that’s a recall AFAIC…

The Spark EV just got significantly updated. A recall for it, is only a matter of time.

AFAIC?

B/c you are a Volt hater…

The low coolant issue is ONLY an issue if it is low. Plus there is a warning light in the dash to monitor that.

It is NOT a shutdown or safety issue.

YOu are just a stupid hater.

Nice observation!

Of course, this is largely true because these models didn’t exist in previous years but what the heck . . . EV advocates should use this fact to help encourage EV sales.

GM feels like an old Arnold Swartzenegger movie.

When we had all the press about Tesla doing their OTA update and didn’t want to call it recall, I made this. 🙂

Most of the GM recalls are related to cars in the pre-bankruptcy days.

Although there are few new models recalls as well. But in general, the newer models are designed better.

Also, the new CEO is doing a top-down safety review. So, anything even looks remotely safety issue, they would stop sales and recall them.

With all that said, it is clear that Volt is one of the best design car coming from GM. If GM spend as much as effort as it did on the rest of its lineups, GM would have been a much better company.
