General Motors is recalling approximately 4 million vehicles, including some 2014-2016 Chevrolet Sparks EVs, to fix a potential airbag issues that’s been linked to at least one death.

According to the automakers, there’s a chance that the front air bags in the affected vehicles could enter a test mode and not inflate during a crash.

The fix is a simple software update that will be performed free of charge.

The recall involves theses models:

  • 2014-2016 Buick LaCrosse, Chevrolet SS, Chevrolet Spark EV
  • 2014-2017 Buick Encore, GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Corvette, Trax, Caprice and Silverado
  • 2015-2017 Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban and Silverado HD, GMC Yukon, Yukon XL and Sierra HD and Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV.

Additional details, including production dates for affected Spark EVs, are posted below.

    *crickets* LOL!

If this was about SparkEV licensed to Tesla to be made into FCEV and in China only to be sold in CA, it’d have lots of chatter. Maybe for Apr. 1.

And I just sold my Spark EV to someone too. I’m sure he’ll be happy to be hit with a recall as soon as he gets it. =/

Seems like a complete non-event for a recall, compared to Takata air bag recalls.

It is good to get the news of this recall out to as many current Spark EV owners as possible with stories like this. But that’s about all the news value there is, considering how easy the fix is.

Thanks for posting this. I have one of the affected Spark EVs and had not heard anything from Chevy yet.

Local dealer is not EV friendly, but this doesn’t seem like an EV specific issue so I’m definitely going to call them.

Had two other ice vehicles with Takata airbag recalls earlier this year. This seems like peanuts compared to that.
